Eid fell on a Friday this year, and as tradition goes, MMCE planned our big celebration the next day — a Saturday packed with games, laughter, and community spirit at beautiful Borden Park. Our incredible volunteers were all set with epic outdoor activities lined up… but Edmonton’s wild winds had other plans.
Despite our hopeful hearts, Saturday arrived just as stormy. But the MMCE spirit is unshakable! As the winds picked up, the first few volunteers at the park quickly sprang into action to find a Plan B — and we found a gem. Our very own Ansarikka opened up his home to host the entire celebration, and just like that, the party was back on!
From the moment we arrived, the vibe was electric. We kicked off with our usual round of warm conversations, sweet laughter, and of course — singing our hearts out.
Then came the games. And oh, did it get wild.
We picked 4 random team leaders who drafted their teams Survivor-style — and suddenly, it was GAME ON!
First up: the Ping Pong Paper Roll Relay
Then came a hilarious twist on Chinese Whispers… the dance version
We had planned at least five more games, but these two turned into full-blown tournaments complete with slogan chants, booing (all in good fun!), countless retries, and some seriously unexpected competitiveness. Some of us even lost our voices by the end of the night from all the shouting and cheering — and we wouldn’t have it any other way. We laughed until our sides ached.
To wind it all down (kind of), we circled back for more singing — classic songs, good vibes, and full hearts.
Even though the winds stole our original plan, we left with the kind of joy you can’t schedule — spontaneous, chaotic, and absolutely perfect.
AND GUESS WHAT?
Because the group games were such a hit, we’re already talking about a Part 2 — this time (fingers crossed!) outdoors. Stay tuned.
