Ten years. What began as a few families gathering in living rooms has grown into a vibrant, tightly-knit community. And at Decima Rauwa, our 10th anniversary celebration, that growth was on full display—through laughter, color, rhythm, and the unmistakable joy of belonging.
The blue and white theme set the tone—elegant, unified, and full of life. Everyone came dressed in shades of blue, creating a visually striking sea of community and camaraderie. The lights and sound were perfectly tuned, and the stage looked like a dream—a centerpiece that showcased the hours of hard work and preparation that went into every performance.
From the moment guests arrived, the event radiated warmth, coordination, and community spirit. The evening began with a Qur’an recitation, grounding us in faith, followed by a heartfelt welcome address by Dr. Salam, and the official welcome speech by His Worship Amarjeet Sohi, who also launched our long-awaited MMCE website. His appreciation for the meticulous planning and beautiful setup of the event was deeply encouraging and a proud moment for the entire team.
To honor our global consciousness, we held a tribute to Palestine, reminding us to keep them in our prayers and grounding our celebration in compassion.
What followed was a stunning series of performances:
- A graceful Oppana by our young girls,
- A high-energy Kolkali by our men,
- An adorable fashion show featuring kids—some of whom just took their first steps this year,
- A vibrant Duff Muttu by our young boys and teens,
- Another elegant Oppana, this time by our ladies,
- A performance by our community music band,
- A group song filled with unity and emotion,
- Several more dance performances by the ladies, kids and young girls
- An energetic dance performance by Dance Capitals, Edmonton
- Dance performances by our strong supporters who drove in all the way from from Calgary
- And a hilarious, heartwarming skit that captured the spirit of MMCE—with several inside jokes and light-hearted pokes at beloved community personalities.
The night wrapped up with a high-energy group dance, and in true MMCE style, more than most of the crowd eventually found themselves on stage, dancing and laughing together.
Throughout the event, the atmosphere was electric. The photo booth—with its crescent moon prop, lanterns, and twinkling lights—was constantly surrounded by long lines. It became one of the evening’s most popular spots, offering families and friends the chance to capture the magic of the moment.
The Chaya Peediya (Tea Shop) was a nostalgic hit—decorated with retro movie posters and an old-school radio, it served up traditional candies and snacks lovingly brought from back home. Thanks to Savoys, tea and snacks flowed throughout the night, keeping the conversations going and the energy high.
The Mehendi stall, with its vibrant setup, saw a steady line for the full few hours it was open. The intricate designs added a touch of traditional elegance to the evening.
Our Platinum Sponsors, Dr. Pradeep Janardanan and Realtor Rinku, were glowing in their praise. They lauded the event’s seamless flow, powerful performances, and the incredible sense of unity and pride in every detail. Their support, along with that of all our sponsors, made a huge difference.
And how could we forget the incredible support from our Calgary family? Nearly ten families made the journey to be with us, including our beloved founder and brother, Nasserkka. Your presence meant the world to us. It was truly moving to witness the love, warmth, and unwavering support you brought with you. Having you celebrate this milestone alongside us made the day even more special and unforgettable.
And of course, no celebration is complete without a feast—and what a feast it was. Despite just landing from India the day before and making the long drive from Calgary, our dear Nasserkka insisted on taking charge of the kitchen, pouring his heart into preparing the now-legendary biriyani that has become a hallmark of Decima Rauwa. Alongside Mansoorkka’s unwavering dedication and Anwarkka’s refreshing welcome drink, the meal was nothing short of extraordinary. Guests were treated to a soul-satisfying spread: layers of fragrant beef biriyani, tender chicken curry, flaky porottas, and soft, syrup-soaked gulab jamuns that melted in your mouth. Every bite carried the unmistakable taste of home, care, and community. The food was a major highlight, with guests raving about it long after their plates were empty—testament to the love and tradition simmered into every dish.
The group picture was a moment that gave us pause—seeing everyone together in one frame, we realized just how large and closely connected our family has become over the past decade.
Looking back, it felt like a grand school or college day—anticipation, excitement, and an overwhelming sense of togetherness. The WhatsApp groups are still buzzing, the photos are still being shared, and the memories will linger for a long time.
This wasn’t just an event. It was a statement. A celebration of who we are, where we’ve come from, and where we’re going—together.
Here’s to a decade of MMCE. And here’s to the many more memories we’re yet to make.
